Join Our Team as an Estimator/Lead Estimator!

Location: Sioux Falls, SD
Company: Signature Companies, LLC

Salary: $70,000 - $90,000.

Potential for bonus structure

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare detailed cost estimates for spec and built-to-order homes.

• Develop and maintain baseline budgets and prices for standard floorplans and models.

• Perform quantity takeoffs from plans and specifications.

• Solicit, review, and compare subcontractor and supplier bids.

• Maintain and update cost libraries, unit pricing, and estimating templates.

• Provide preliminary pricing for sales on upgrades, options, and customizations.

• Ensure all pricing includes proper markups and allowances.

• Generate final project budgets for handoff to project management.

• Support PMs with cost updates, change orders, and budget adjustments.

• Track and report actual costs vs. estimates to refine accuracy.

• Build and maintain relationships with vendors, trades, and suppliers.

• Monitor market pricing trends for labor and materials.

• Coordinate with drafting, land, and finance teams on cost impacts.

• Document all estimates in company systems (Sage, Buildertrend, etc.).

• Recommend process improvements to improve accuracy and efficiency.

Qualifications:

• Degree in Construction Management, Estimating or Engineering.
• 2+ years of experience in related field Preferred but will train a qualified applicant.
• Has a comprehensive knowledge of building products, construction details, and relevant rules, regulations, and quality standards.
• Has ample knowledge about means, methods, and materials used in residential and multi-family construction to determine the most cost-effective type of construction for a project.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and estimating software.
• Excellent plan and specification reading skills.
• Well-developed organizational skills.
• Honest, Dependable and Good interpersonal skills.
• Good driving record, valid license - insurable through the company.

Key Working Relationships:

Must be able to work in a professional manner and able to work well with different trades. Must be able to properly communicate over the phone and in writing to upper management to include Subcontractors, Suppliers, Onsite Staff, Owners, other PM’s, and Supervisors.

Preferred:

• Experience in estimating single family construction
• Experience in Sage Project Management
• Experience in Bluebeam
• Scheduling knowledge
